Cardigan Tidal Flood Risk Management Scheme – Pre-planning Consultation

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is holding a public pre-planning consultation on the draft designs for the Cardigan Tidal Flood Risk Management Scheme, running from 7 April to 18 May 2026.

Tidal flooding has affected this part of Cardigan in the past, impacting homes, businesses and transport routes along the north bank of the Afon Teifi.

Around 90 properties are especially at risk, and rising sea levels, coupled with climate change, mean the threat is likely to increase.

The proposed scheme includes a new tidal flood wall, improvements along the Strand, and new areas of intertidal habitat. These plans aim to protect the town into the future while enhancing parts of the riverfront.

Part of the new tidal flood wall would be built in the Gloster Row car park, which means the slipway access into the river would be permanently closed.

Improving flood protection will help safeguard homes, businesses, community spaces and essential services, while also supporting the long-term resilience of the town.

This consultation is your chance to view the early proposals and help shape the final design.
