Deeside Power Station - Draft Decision Consultation

Overview

Deeside Power (UK) Limited have submitted an application to Natural Resources Wales (NRW) to change it’s environmental permit for Deeside Power Station (permit number/XP3131VK).

This change, termed a ‘variation’, is a legal requirement under the Environmental Permitting Regulations (England and Wales) 2016.

We have assessed the proposed changes and are minded to grant the permit variation.

Application Details

Application Reference: PAN-028461

Operator: Deeside Power (UK) Limited

Application Type: Substantial Variation

Address: Deeside Power Station, Weighbridge Road, Deeside Industrial Park, Deeside, Flintshire, CH5 2UL

Proposed Activity: S5.4(1)(b)(i) Disposal of non-hazardous waste with a capacity exceeding 50 tonnes per day (or 100 tonnes per day if the only waste treatment activity is anaerobic digestion) involving (i) biological treatment

The variation will removed the 927MW net rated thermal input Combined Cycle Gas Turbine power station activity from the permit, and add a 109MW net rated thermal input Natural gas engine power station activity.

Our draft decision

We are minded to grant the permit variation. We will only grant a permit variation if we believe that significant pollution will not be caused, and the operator has the ability to meet the conditions of the permit.

The permit includes appropriate conditions to protect human health and the environment.
