Change to environmental permit for Llanshay Farm

Llanshay Farm Limited has submitted an application to Natural Resources Wales to change the environmental permit for Llanshay Farm (permit number EPR/AB3593ZL).  

This change, termed a ‘variation’, is a legal requirement under the Environmental Permitting Regulations (England and Wales) 2016.

Regulated facility type: Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016, Schedule 1 installation, Part 1, Section 6.9 A(1)(a)(i) - Rearing of poultry or pigs intensively in an installation with more than: (i) 40,000 places of poultry. 

Site address: Llanshay Farm, Llanshay Lane, Knighton, Powys, LD7 1LW  

The operator has proposed the following changes their permit:  

• an increase in the number of poultry places from 110,000 to 200,000 

• construction of 2 new poultry sheds  

• Installation of ammonia scrubbers to all poultry sheds (new and existing) to reduce ammonia emissions to air  

Our draft decision  

We are minded to grant the permit variation. We will only grant a permit variation if we believe that significant pollution will not be caused, and the operator has the ability to meet the conditions of the permit.

The permit includes appropriate conditions to protect human health and the environment.
