Bridgend Paper Mill - Initial Application Consultation

Overview

WEPA UK Ltd. have submitted an application to Natural Resources Wales (NRW) to change its environmental permit for Bridgend Paper Mill (permit number EPR/EP3738NG).

This change, termed a ‘variation’, is a legal requirement under the Environmental Permitting Regulations (England and Wales) 2016.

We are seeking comments on this application.

Regulated facility type: Installation - Schedule 1 Activity   Section 6.1, Part A(1)(b) – producing in an industrial plant, paper and board where the plant has a production capacity of more than 20 tonnes per day.

Other Installation Schedule 1 Activities: S5.4 A(1)(a)(i)  - Biological treatment of more than 50 tonnes per day of process effluent and boiler blow down

Regulated facility location: Bridgend Paper Mill Llangynwyd, Maesteg, Bridgend, Mid Glamorgan, CF34 9RS.

WEPA UK Limited has applied to vary their environmental permit for Bridgend Paper Mill (EPR/EP3738NG) to reflect the replacement of one paper machine with a new paper machine. This will result in the following changes to site;

• Removal and re-purposing of the Jupiter building for reel storage.
• Construction of a new building to house the new paper machine.
• The application of best available techniques for the activities carried out on site.
• Addition of 3 new point source emissions to air from the paper machine and dryer.
