Mae gwaith torri coed i gael gwared ar 14 ha o goed llarwydd sydd wedi’u heintio â Phytophora ramorum (a elwir yn fwy cyffredin yn glefyd llarwydd) yng nghoetiroedd Dwyrain Mescoed Mawr, ger Casnewydd, bellach wedi’i gwblhau.
Bydd ailblannu yn digwydd y gaeaf hwn fel rhan o raglen ailstocio 2023/2024.

Felling operations to remove 14 ha of larch trees which are infected with Phytophora ramorum (more commonly known as larch disease) in Mescoed Mawr East woodlands, near Newport, have now been completed.
Re planting will take place this winter as part of 2023/ 2024 restocking programme.

We’ve paused the scheduled forest thinning operations in the eastern part of the woodland due to potential nesting birds in the area.
Work is now scheduled to begin in late July – early August once the birds have fledged and left their nests.

Tree felling operations in Yr Graig woodland will begin in September, to remove areas of larch trees as a part of our larch reduction policy to combat the spread of larch disease. Areas of mature trees will also be felled and thinned in line with the Forest Resource Plan.

There are also number of ash trees along the footpath on the east side of the woodland that need to be removed as they pose a risk to visitor’s safety.
