Mescoed Mawr improvement works
Overview
Investigation work for improvements to safety, public access and forest management at Mescoed Mawr forest, near Newport, will take place for around one week from Monday 02 March 2026.
Public access will be restricted temporarily on certain forest paths and roads during this time.
Dwr Cymru Welsh Water contractors will carry out the work on water pipelines.
All activity will be carried out with respect for the environment, ensuring wildlife, habitats, and long‑term forest resilience remain central to every decision.

- improve safety for walkers, cyclists, and other forest users.
Will there be any disruption?
People visiting the forest should be aware that:
- temporary access restrictions may be in place on certain forest paths and roads
- signage will be clearly displayed, and alternative routes will be provided when required
- noise and vehicle movement may be noticeable during working hours.
