On 31 May 2024, NRW accepted a Marine Licence application from Mona Offshore Wind Limited for works associated with the construction and maintenance of the transmission assets of the Mona Offshore Windfarm Project located in the East Irish Sea.
The Transmission assets consist of export cables, interconnector cables and substation platforms. The proposed export cables make landfall in Llanddulas, North Wales.
Outside the scope of this Marine Licence application is the Generation Assets (which include the wind turbines) and the onshore export cable corridor which extends from landfall to the onshore substation.
Please be aware that in addition to the Marine Licence application, Mona Offshore Wind Limited has submitted an application for a Development Consent Order (DCO) which is currently being considered by the Planning Inspectorate, the proposed DCO includes a deemed Marine Licence for the Generation Assets.
Further information on the application for a DCO can be found on the Planning Inspectorate’s website.
The Marine Licence application for the Transmission Asset determination will be running in parallel to that of the DCO. Although there are areas of overlap, both have a separate process.
Below are the Marine Licence Application Form, Application Cover letter and Document List. All documents submitted as part of the application can be seen on our public register.
