ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENTION NOT TO PREPARE AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT

Regulation 12B of the Environmental Impact Assessment (Land Drainage Improvement Works) SI1999/1783 as amended

PANDORA MINE - PONTIFEX ADIT: FLOW GAUGING STRUCTURE INSTALLATIONS 2026

Natural Resources Wales gives notice that it proposes to carry out work at two locations in close proximity to Pontifex Adit, Pandora Mine, Conwy (approximate NGR SH76306040), to install Flow Gauging Structures (FGS).

The FGS installation and subsequent monitoring are required to inform the design of anti-pollution measures at the former Pandora metal mine project to combat harmful metals entering the Afon Crafnant catchment. The proposed FGS installation works will involve the following:

• Upstream of Pontifex Adit discharge (approximate NGR SH76326037) – reinstatement of an existing gauging weir.
• Downstream of Pontifex Adit discharge (approximate NGR SH76296043) – installation of a flow measuring instrument in the carpark culvert downstream of Pontifex Adit discharge. Llyn Geirionydd carpark.

Natural Resources Wales considers that the improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of them. Although an environmental statement is not proposed, the scheme design has considered environmental factors associated with the site and an Environmental Action Plan (EAP) has been prepared for use during the project. Appropriate consents is being sought for work in an Ordinary Watercourse.
