Intention not to prepare an environmental statement - Upper Clarach catchment
Overview
Announcement of intention not to prepare an environmental statement.
Regulation 12B of the Environmental Impact Assessment (Land Drainage Improvement Works) SI1999/1783 as amended.
Upper Clarach Catchment – Access Steps and Flow Gauging Structure installations.
Natural Resources Wales gives notice that it proposes to install access steps and x4 flow gauging structures at the following sites in the Upper Clarach catchment, near Cwmsymlog Ceredigion:
Oliver’s Adit: NGR SN6804183326 Installation of a ‘V-notch’ weir plate, including a logger, pressure sensor and gauge board.
Bushell’s Shaft Upwelling: NGR SN6950083787 Installation of access steps and a compound rectangular notch weir plate.
Bwlch Reclaimed Tip Discharge: NGR SN7013082554 Installation of a ‘V-notch’ weir plate.
Cwmerfyn Deep Adit Discharge: NGR SN6928482863 Installation of a velocity sensor within the existing pipe.
The flow monitoring structure installation works are required for site discharge monitoring and data collection, to inform the consideration and design of longer-term metal mine remediation measures. These proposals form part of the joint Wales Metal Mines Programme between Natural Resources Wales and the Mining Remediation Authority.
Natural Resources Wales considers that the improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of them. Although an environmental statement is not proposed, the scheme design has considered environmental factors associated with the site and an Environmental Action Plan (EAP) is being prepared for the project.
The EAP and scheme design information can be obtained from the contact below.
Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so, in writing, to the address specified below, by 13 July 2026.
