Notice is hereby given that Conwy County Borough Council, Environment, Roads & Facilities, Mochdre Offices, Conway Road, Mochdre, Conwy, LL28 5AB has applied to Natural Resources Wales (“NRW”) for a marine licence to carry out a regulated activity under the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009. The project requires EIA consent and is subject to the requirement for an environmental impact assessment (“EIA”) under the Marine Works (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2007 (“the EIA Regulations”). An environmental statement has been prepared by the applicant.
The application is for a coastal defence scheme in Kinmel Bay, which includes upgrades to existing rock armour, raising the height of the sea wall and a new flood gate. Public realm and ecological enhancements also form part of the scheme. The area of permanent works covers approximately 35,111m² but only a limited portion of the scheme is below mean high-water springs.
