Nature Recovery Action Plan (NRAP) Questionnaire
Overview
Introduction
- The Nature Recovery Action Plan for Wales 2020 to 2021 (gov.wales) was originally published in December 2015 as the Nature Recovery Plan. It is the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan for Wales.
- Part 1: Our Strategy for Nature, sets out the commitment to reversing the loss of biodiversity in Wales, and the objectives for action.
- It sets out how the United Nations Environment Programme’s Convention on Biological Diversity’s (CBD) Strategic Plan for Biodiversity (and the associated Aichi Biodiversity Targets for 2011-20 in Wales) is addressed in Wales.
- Part 2: Our Action Plan, has been refreshed for 2020-21 to provide focus and prioritisation within a fast-changing policy context and the emerging ecological crisis.
A new Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) was agreed at COP15 in December 2022. All Parties, which includes the UK are required to develop a National Biodiversity Strategy to outline their approach to meeting the goals and targets set out in the new framework.
In Wales, during the Biodiversity Deep Dive, the Minister for Climate Change agreed to revise the Natural Resources Policy and our National Biodiversity Strategy (currently the Nature Recovery Action Plan) to reflect Deep Dive recommendations and post 2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.
To aid the revision, we are conducting a questionnaire to understand views surrounding the current NRAP to help us learn lessons from the current NRAP to enable us to develop our strategy to meet the global requirements and Deep Dive recommendations through a Team Wales approach.
Why your views matter
This questionnaire focuses on seeking initial views on the objectives, monitoring, and engagement of the current NRAP, and views on its governance through the NRAP Implementation Group. This questionnaire is being used to gather your views ahead of a further workshop. An anonymised summary of surveys and workshop findings will be shared. The findings from these exercises will support the future running of the NRAP IG and the NRAP going forward.
